Welcome to my website, thank you for stopping by.
Everything I make and sell is handmade here in Ontario, Canada.
I draft my own patterns, and some of them take years to perfect.
Fabrics are purchased locally, are often up-cycled or re-purposed, and sometimes I design my own fabrics, which are printed in Canada.
A touch more of my background story:
My name is Kat Senyk. I am an artist who’s primary focus is designing and creating soft goods; clothing, accessories, home decor and functional up-cycling pieces that change seasonally. I sell my product at a few pop-up locations each year, and sometimes I post things online here and on IG: biokat_design
“I have been designing and creating forever. Ideas percolate until they need to be brought to life, so…. I design, draft, and sew articles of clothing, accessories and home furnishings whenever I can find/make the time. I particularly enjoy chopping and re-modding; creating new pieces from vintage or up-cycled fabrics and pieces.”
I studied Arts and U of Ottawa, and then Fashion Design at George Brown College. I worked in the fashion industry as a pattern drafter, sample-maker and designer in Toronto back when fashion manufacturing was all happening within the fashion district of Toronto, before most of it moved to over-seas. It was the best, ever… Queen and Spadina was the place to be create.
I established biokat in 1999, a clothing and accessories brand that sold in retail stores in Toronto, Ottawa, and online in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. I much prefer to work with woven materials over stretch materials, and I will alway lean towards organic fabrics such as wool, linen, cotton, etc.
This is my side-gig now. I love sharing my offerings with people who appreciate properly tailored, intentionally executed pieces. What I make to sell changes frequently. Yes, I take on a few custom projects a year, and I would love to chat about collaborative ideas or even help you familiarize yourself with your sewing machine.
I am currently looking for retail collaborators. Please message me if you know about any vendor markets in Ontario, retail stores in Canada, or Canadian-owned online stores that you think my offerings would be well-received. Thank you for your time and thank you for considering purchasing locally and not from big-box stores, amazon or fast-fashion brands.
